Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood is the biggest abortion clinic chain in the United States and operates over 100 facilities in California.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) oversees Planned Parenthood affiliates throughout the country, including seven affiliates in California: Planned Parenthood Northern California, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, Planned Parenthood of California Central Coast, Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley, Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties, and Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. Each affiliate is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit and has its own board and conducts its own fundraising. The affiliates each run multiple clinics. Planned Parenthood Mar Monte is the largest, with over 30 clinics spread across the Bay Area and Nevada.

The PPFA affiliates are mirrored by Planned Parenthood Action Fund affiliates. The Action Fund is the political arm of Planned Parenthood and spends millions of dollars to elect politicians and pass or defeat legislation around the country. Each PPFA affiliate has an associated Action Fund affiliate, which fundraises separately.
Planned Parenthood spokesmen claim that abortion is only a small part of what Planned Parenthood does and say that really, Planned Parenthood is an important provider of health care for many Americans. This is false. Planned Parenthood’s biggest moneymaker is abortion and the amount of actual health care they provide is steadily declining while the number of abortions they do keeps climbing.
The Guttmacher institute, founded as a research affiliate of Planned Parenthood and named after a former president of Planned Parenthood, reports that at least half of all patient visits to Planned Parenthood abortion clinics in California are for abortions. (1)
The total number of U.S. abortions was highest in 1990 and has declined almost every year since.
Planned Parenthood, however, has increased its percentage of abortions every year since. In the 2021-2022 fiscal year, the most recent year that the numbers are available, Planned Parenthood committed 374,155 abortions – over 40% of all abortions in the U.S. (2)

Abortions make up more than 60% of Planned Parenthood’s total clinic income.

According to its own numbers, for example:
-
In 2011, Planned Parenthood provided 639,384 breast exams. In 2021, it provided 193,045 – a decline of 70%.
-
In 2011, Planned Parenthood provided 585,978 Pap tests. In 2021, it provided 228,466 – a decline of 61%.
-
In 2011, Planned Parenthood provided 49,058 HPV treatments. In 2021, it provided 16,556 – a decline of 66%, although HPV is becoming more prevalent.
-
In 2011, Planned Parenthood provided 39,763 colposcopy procedures. In 2021, it provided 14,878 – a decline of 63%.
The number of actual medical services offered by Planned Parenthood is plummeting while the number of abortions is increasing, but Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding increased from $542 million in 2011 to $670 million in 2021.
Planned Parenthood has been caught:
-
shielding child predators (3)
-
targeting minority neighborhoods for abortion (4)
-
lying about what services it provides (5)
-
defying health code laws (6)
-
submitting fraudulent Medicaid claims (7)
-
harvesting and selling aborted baby parts (8)
None of this should surprise us. Its business model is centered around killing babies - it does not respect the dignity of any human being.
Planned Parenthood opposes all restrictions on abortion.
