February 2019 Activity Report

As always, it continues to be a busy time at the office. Last month we recently received a phone call from a father of a little boy who has survived a near-drowning incident and is now in rehab; however, the little guy is not “safe” yet…. His father is now struggling to protect his son from people who are trying to put a “Do Not Resuscitate” order on the little boy’s medical chart. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident; we constantly receive calls from families trying to protect the lives of loved ones from this sort of “futile care” protocol, from this little guy to an elderly parent or grandparent…. The entire life spectrum is in need of our protection in this area.

From New York and Virginia

With the recently passed legislation in New York allowing abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, and the Virginia law that would have permitted “post-birth abortion” (i.e. infanticide) about which we received several inquiries: “What are the limits on gestational age for abortion?” We sadly had to explain that the Doe v Bolton decision, handed down the same day as Roe v Wade ruling, pretty much makes abortion legal for all nine months of a pregnancy. Doe v Bolton contains a “health of the mother” exception which allows for wide interpretation. We are there to educate, and empower people with the facts to share with others.

To California – SB 24 – RU486 on UC and CSU Campus’

We bring to your attention a piece of legislation SB24 here in California that will require all California public universities (UC & CSU campuses) health centers to include medical abortion (i.e. the RU-486 abortion pill). Governor Brown vetoed a nearly identical bill last year for lack of need; however, the current Governor, Gavin Newsom, has said he will sign the bill if it is sent to his desk. For more information on this or any bill in the California legislature visit: http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/

Financially Speaking

While we want to continue to be there for people in need, and to continue our education efforts, everything comes at a cost. Your donations pay for our supplies, phone bill, internet access and compensation for one employee to be there to answer the phone 24/7. To operate at full capacity, we need around $35K a year; however, donations the past three years have been closer to $25K, forcing us to decline several opportunities. We were able to use some reserves from estate donations, but those funds are quickly dwindling. Please help us thrive again. We have stepped out in faith and offered to help several groups start pro-life groups in their area; please consider helping us provide them needed resources, as well as maintaining our current projects.
