Countering propaganda … 🎥LIVE

One of the jobs of a pro-life activist organization like California Right to Life is staying on top of what pro-abortion activists are thinking, saying, and doing. To counter their ideas and their events, I have to know their talking points better than the average “pro-choice” person.

That’s why I am on the mailing list of over a dozen pro-abortion organizations.

When I read what these organizations are telling their supporters, I know what I will soon hear from students on campuses during our outreach.

Sometimes, if it weren’t for the fact that I had previewed the propaganda as it came to me in unison from multiple different pro-abortion sources, I would have no idea what students are thinking or where their compassion is placed as they struggle to formulate their arguments for abortion. Understanding the misinformation they have been fed, even if they cannot articulate it, allows me to better address their concerns and more persuasively present the pro-life position.

Occasionally when I receive invitations to pro-abortion events, I have the opportunity to counter the propaganda at its source.

For example, this week I received an email from the “Abortion Access Front” announcing a 24-hour livestream called “Mife Stories Project,” featuring pro-abortion women reading alleged firsthand accounts of other women who had taken the abortion pill. The livestream was broadcast from a cozy living room set on the Mall in Washington, D.C., with the Capitol as a backdrop.

From 2500 miles away, what could I do? I contacted my sister who was in the area and, within 90 minutes, she and two others showed up at the event to represent those whose stories were not being told: the babies killed in abortions.

In real time, I watched as the readers lost their focus and tried to dismiss the images of the aborted babies as fake. For almost 20 minutes these hardened pro-abortio

n activists deflected from the victims, accused the pro-lifers of hypocrisy, insulted their appearance, and fell back on how many women say they are glad they aborted their babies.

The camera crew was not as hardened as the participants. They didn’t know that the pro-abortion rule is never, ever to show the victims. The camera crew included footage of the aborted babies repeatedly and were so focused on what the pro-lifers were saying that they neglected to keep the camera on the official speakers.

Eventually the pro-lifers were interrupted by Capitol police, but not before the victims were included in the livestream and the camera crew and other event staff had been educated. Given that there were almost as many people in the camera crew as there were people watching the livestream, the score was about even.

For my part, I was struck by how many of the event's "abortion" stories were actually stories of miscarriage, followed by a medical intervention. Not only are miscarriages beside the point for groups like the Abortion Access Front, but mifepristone is not commonly used as a treatment for incomplete miscarriages.

A lot of pro-abortion energy comes from people who do not understand the difference between a miscarriage and a procured abortion and think the crazy, evil pro-lifers are trying to criminalize both. The pro-abort crowd capitalizes on that confusion.

These are the myths that abortion advocates rely on to persuade even pro-life voters that the abortion pill must be kept legal and readily available. Countering their propaganda with the truth is one reason why California Right to Life exists.
